Former Vice President of Maldives Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor still remains under observation at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Maldives Correctional Services has said.
The ex-VP was taken to IGMH on Thursday after he fell unconscious in his jail cell and sustained head injuries. He is in 'good condition' said Corrections, although he is still under observation at the hospital. A date on which he will be transferred back to prison has not yet been determined, they added.
The Supreme Court recently ordered to detain Adeeb until the end of the appeal trial over the Maabinhuraa island corruption scandal. The Prosecutor General requested the top court to detain Adeeb as he was a flight risk.
Earlier this month, Adeeb attempted to flee the country while a travel ban was imposed on him. However, he was discovered by Indian authorities, and was handed over to Maldives police and transported back to Maldives.
Adeeb, who remains a subject of investigation for alleged misappropriation of state funds, corruption and money laundering, suffers from a number of health issues including an eye disease known as Glaucoma and kidney issues. He has been taken to the hospital for treatment on several occasions while under state custody.
