Ministry warns action against import, sale of medicine online

Health Ministry has stated that the import of medicines via internet and post services, and its use and sale are prohibited.

In an announcement made by the Ministry, they said that medicines or any item which include trace medicines purchased and imported through the internet or post for personal use requires a valid medical prescription. The purchase and import of medicines and items containing traces of medicines through the internet and post services for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited, said the Ministry.

However, it has been noticed that many medicines are being imported through post or brought in to the country on hand, and are being promoted and sold across the country for commercial purposes. Ministry said such medicines are not registered at the Health Ministry and its safety is not guaranteed.

Ministry further stated that they noticed some of the medicines do not properly label the ingredients it contains, while other medicines have illegible labels.Therefore, action will be taken against any individual or party who imports and sells medicines without obtaining the proper licensing and permits, warned the ministry.
