JSC report on Supreme Court forwarded for committee evaluation

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC)'s report on the Supreme Court has been forwarded to the relevant parliament committee for further evaluation.

The report highlighted 17 instances where the Supreme Court had acted unconstitutionally. Henveiru Central MP Ali Azim from main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) proposed to send the report for further evaluation, whose suggestion was seconded by Hulhumale' MP Ali Niyaz. 68 members voted in favor of sending the report for evaluation by the Judiciary Committee.

Debating on the report, many lawmakers suggested dismissing the current Supreme Court bench and appointing a fresh bench of judges. Several lawmakers expressed concern that the Supreme Court has not been 'cleansed' thus far while over three months have passed since the new parliament began its term.
