Dredging completed for Faresmathoda Airport development

Dredging work has been completed for the development of Faresmathoda Airport.

Faresmathoda Council member Yasir Mohamed told AVAS that land has been reclaimed between four uninhabited islands for the development of the airport. While survey teams have already inspected the area, work such as addition of aggregate is currently ongoing, said Yasir.

"The four islands have been linked through reclamation. Additional work is being done to add sand and aggregate", he said.

Yasir said the Planning Ministry has informed that practical work of the airport will be implemented and completed within the year.

The Faresmathoda Airport will have a 1.2 km long runway, apron and a passenger terminal. The dredging work was contracted to Maldives Transport and Company Company (MTCC) late last year.
