MIFCO has stated that they have not controlled the prices at which they purchase fish from local fishermen.
The state-owned tuna processing and trading company's statement comes at a time when rival company Horizon Fisheries faces criticism for controlling the amount of fish obtained for their Maandhoo complex due to decline in demand in the international market.
MIFCO is a subsidiary of government owned State Trading Organization (STO). Speaking on the policies followed by the company in procuring fish, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amru said while there is a significant decline in fish prices in the international market, no changes have been brought to the prices at which MIFCO purchases from local fishermen.
The company still remains a ready market for the local fishermen to sell their daily catch, said Amr.
