Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has assured that the police would effect arrest warrants obtained by the presidential commission investigating murders and enforced disappearances.
CP Hameed Saturday said Presidential Commissions Act entails that the commission has the sole investigative authority over murdered journalist Ahmed Rilwan's case. If a suspect needs to be arrested during the course of investigation, the commission has the authority to seek arrest warrants, said the CP.
The commissioner added that that since MPS is not the investigative authority in the case, it cannot apply for an arrest warrant on behalf of the investigative authority.
"As Commissioner of Police, I assure the public that MPS will fully assist DDCOM in effecting the immediate arrest of any person against whom DDCOM has obtained an arrest warrant from the courts", said the Commissioner.
