Transport Minister, Aishath Nahula has emphasized the importance of developing air travel for sustainable development of the travel and tourism industry.
Minister Nahula made this statement while addressing at the General Assembly of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This is the first time a Maldivian Minister participated and addressed an ICAO General Assembly in the past 11 years.
In her address, Minister Nahula noted that the economy of the archipelago was highly dependent on the travel and tourism industry, and said over 99% of tourists who visit Maldives traveled via air. The minister further stated that the development of air travel sector is essential for the sustainable development of the industry, highlighting the government's efforts to bring about said development.
Ministers and heads of organizations from 193 countries are took part in the ICAO General Assembly in Montreal, Canada. Minister Nahula met with her counterparts from around the globe on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
