ACC launches investigation into compensations issued by govt

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched investigations into the state issuing large amounts as compensation to private companies.

Speaking at the first press conference held by the newly appointed ACC members, commission member Ibrahim Shakeel revealed they are investigating the matter of the state issuing large amounts in compensation to private companies following unlawful termination of agreements. The cases are being investigated as one big issue, said ACC.

"All settlement related issues are being treated as one big case. We will individually investigate each settlement during the course of our investigation", Shakeel said.

According to Finance Ministry's statistics, the current government has issued over MVR 1 billion as compensation thus far.

While MVR 348 million was issued to Dheebaja Company, MVR 276 million to Nexbis Maldives, and MVR 848 million to Noomadi Resorts and Residencies, MVR 78 million was issued to Big Company and MVR 22 million to CGT.
