Two expatriates have been arrested for holding a person hostage for extortion.
Police said they received reports of a Bangladeshi man being held hostage in a home in Maafannu ward in capital Male' on Thursday evening.
The victim was rescued following the report, and the two expatriates involved were arrested, said the police.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Several cases of holding people hostage have taken place frequently in the recent months.
