Fuel Express receives compensation for T-jetty fire damage

Dhivehi Insurance Company has provided compensation for the losses caused to Fuel Express Maldives by the T. Jetty fire incident that occurred in September.

All property of Fuel Express Maldives is insured by Dhivehi Insurance Company.

The claim payment was handed handed over to Fuel Express Maldives by the Managing Director of the Dhivehi Insurance Company, Abdul Waheed Thaufeeq. The documents were received on behalf of Fuel Express Maldives by its owner, Mohamed Shihab.

Speaking to AVAS on Sunday, the Managing Director of Fuel Express Maldives said all property of the company are insured by Dhivehi Insurance Company.

While the company lost one of their oil bowsers to the tragic T-jetty fire, the second bowser was damaged beyond use. The operation of the company has come to a standstill after the two bowsers went up in flames with thousands of liters of petrol in it.

Shihab stated that he is pleased with the services of the Dhivehi Insurance Company, confirming that the company received the full claim for the damages incurred in the fire.

"We did not expect [to receive our claim] in such a short time. We are receiving full compensation for our loss in about a month after the incident occurred. We would like to thank Dhivehi Insurance Company for their quick services. I would also like to note that the company attended to the case immediately following the incident", Shihab said.

The fire incident occurred around 3.40 pm on September 30th when a speedboat being fueled at the industrial harbour of near T-jetty caught on fire and exploded. Seven people were burnt to various degrees during the incident. Six bowsers of three companies burnt in the fire in addition to a speed boat. An estimated MVR 20 million in damage occurred as a result of the fire.

The damaged bowsers include three bowsers of HMHI company, two bowsers of Meridiam Services and two bowsers of Fuel Express Maldives.
