Investigation reveals nothing new: Jameel

Former Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed stated that the recently publicized investigative report on the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali does not reveal any new information.

The religious scholar was found brutally murdered in the stairwell of his residence on October 2, 2012. Jameel was the Home Minister at the time.

The presidential commission investigating murders and enforced disappearances probed the murder and prepared a report on their findings which was forwarded to the President's Office. On Thursday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih forwarded the report to relevant authorities, and announced that important details of the report would be publicized by the end of the week. However, the findings of the report have already become public.

Local medias report that the commission's report reveals that there is no evidence that murder of the MP was politically motivated. According to the report, religious extremists who strongly disagreed with the scholar's ideologies were behind the murder.

Jameel said while the commission's investigation has not revealed any new information, all it did was affirm that the rumors spread by some political figures regarding the case were false.

"President Yameen's name was tarnished for political gain. I am sincerely concerned seeing where the real perpetrators stand today," Jameel said.
