A private company 'The Beyya' has initiated a campaign together with national airline Maldivian to plant a palm tree for every purchase of a t-shirt under the campaign.
The 'Beyyah Tree' campaign was inaugurated by Speaker of the parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed and Maldivian's Deputy Managing Director at a ceremony held Saturday at Maldivian's 'Moonima' lounge at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Under this campaign, a palm tree will be planted and nurtured in Maldives by Beyya company for every t-shirt purchased.
Speaking at the ceremony, former President Nasheed said the campaign is very important to Maldives. He further noted that the number of palm trees in Maldives is decreasing significantly.
Nasheed said all customers purchasing a t-shirt are in reality purchasing a palm tree in their name.
The t-shirts will be available for purchase at Moonima lounge in four days. Each t-shirt retails for US$ 30.
