"Next Step" Expo on career guidance and higher education has commenced at the National Art Gallery.

The education expo was inaugurated by the First Lady Fazna Ahmed on Sunday. President of Clique College Dr. Naushad Mohamed, faculty members of the college and students took part in the inauguration ceremony.

The expo is organised by Clique College in association with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Maldives.

The two-day event, held from 24-25 November, is targeted for students who have completed O-Level and A-Level examinations this year. It features presentations, information sessions and panel discussions on a range of topics including interview skills, life skills, grooming, leadership and personality development, CV writing and corporate wellness and fitness.

The expo also includes stalls offering job offerings and walk-in interviews, cooking lessons, overseas higher education opportunities and scholarships in addition to information about higher education opportunities available at Clique College.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of Clique College, Dr. Naushad said the main purpose of the expo was to assist students who had completed their schooling to explore options available for a future career in the Maldives.

"IOL statistics report show a predicted increase in youth unemployment rates in Asia Pacific countries in 2020, specially South Asian countries. The likely reason is lack of opportunities for 'decent' jobs (respectable work). The report states that providing respectable work opportunities for youth is imperative for the sustainable development of the economy," Dr. Naushad stated.

Clique College stated that purpose of the expo is to provide information on higher education as well as providing information on the career opportunities which are available in the Maldives and to assist and provide instruction in CV writing. Therefore, Human Resource Officers at high end companies will take part in the Expo to provide information and in making CVs for a job application. 12 presentations and panel discussions will be held at the Expo.
