Missing dinghy found safe

A dinghy boat that went missing earlier on Friday has been safely located.

MNDF revealed at a press conference that the vessel was found around 20 hrs on Friday night. The boat was discovered seven nautical miles off F. Himithy and is currently en route to Feeali with the assistance of the Coast Guard. The boat lost its way due to severe weather conditions, said MNDF.

Earlier on Friday, MNDF commenced a large-scale search operation after the dinghy boat traveling from ADh. Maamigili to Feeali went missing.

The dinghy departed from ADh. Maamigili at 14:15 hrs carrying three children and a man. Two out of the three children aboard the vessel were sons of the man maneuvering the boat. The third child was a relative and a thalassemia patient. MNDF received reports of the missing vessel at 16:53 hrs, after communication with the vessel was cut off.

It takes about 50 minutes for a dinghy to reach Feeali from Maamigili.

The country has been experiencing adverse weather conditions for the past few weeks. A yellow alert has been issued to areas between ADh and Thaa atoll.
