Thilafushi waste disposal site reaches max capacity

Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has revealed that the waste disposal site at industrial island Thilafushi has reached its maximum capacity.

The corporation is facing challenges in disposing of waste, they revealed.

A statement released by WAMCO on Sunday said that the Thilafushi disposal site is where most of the waste produced in Maldives is dumped and managed safely. However, the site has now reached its maximum capacity after years of collecting waste, and the corporation is facing several obstacles in managing collected waste, said WAMCO.

While several vehicles used at Thilafushi are currently under repair, renovation work at the disposal site's harbour are currently ongoing, said WAMCO. Due to adverse weather conditions, the repairs are delayed, causing additional challenges in providing services, they added.

However, the company is working to provide an efficient service to their customers, and new vehicles are being procured to achieve this, said the waste management corporation.

The company apologised to its customers for any inconveniences caused.
