Case filed against Hammaadh

The government has filed a case against Ismail Hammaadh from R.Maduvvari who is detained in connection to the 13-year-old girl who got pregnant and gave birth.

Hammaadh was arrested on 1 December and the court had granted an extension of 15 days for his detention period. A further extension of 15 days is granted by the Criminal Court upon request of the police.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, they have filed a case against Hammadh at the Criminal Court. He is being accused of physically touching a minor with the intention of sexually abusing. If he is proven guilty he will be sentenced for a long-term.

The Suprident of Police Hussain Haneef said in a previous news conference, that Hammaadh is detained in connection to the 13-year-old girl who got pregnant and gave birth. In connection with the case, 14 people are questioned and forensic evidence has been collected. Besides Hammaadh's DNA and that of the baby delivered by the 13-year-old are matched.

Haneef further said that the Child Protection Department is investigating the case of a family of extremist ideology depriving their children of basic rights and a minor giving birth. They have started taking actions against the offenders in liaison with the relevant authorities, said Haneef.

Hammaadh who sexually abused and impregnated the 13-year old has criminal records of being convicted in connection to a terrorist issue and had served a jail sentence.
