Speedboat at Thilafushi lagoon catches on fire

A speedboat anchored in the lagoon of industrial island Thilafushi caught on fire on Sunday.

Police said they received reports of the incident around 11:45 am, and a Bangladeshi expatriate suffered burns in the incident. The injured person has been transported to capital Male' for treatment, and no other persons were injured in the fire, revealed the police

While the fire has been quelled with the assistance of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), another vessel moored at the lagoon was also affected in the fire, said the police. The reason for the fire has not been disclosed.

A speedboat and oil boat at Villimale' lagoon recently caught on fire and injured people in a similar incident.
