A minor and three other people have been arrested from K. Kaashidhoo for possession of alcohol.
Police said officers stationed at the island were patrolling the island around 2.30 am on Monday morning, and arrested four individuals with bottles suspected of containing alcohol. The arrested are a 24 year old local male, an 18 year old local woman, a 30 year old Sri Lankan citizen and a 17 year old minor.
Police said the minor was earlier reported to the authority as a runaway, and has now been handed over to the family.
The sale of alcohol is prohibited in inhabited islands as the consumption of alcohol is forbidden in Islam. Liquor is imported to the Maldives for tourist resorts but are often diverted and sold illegally in inhabited islands.
