ACC probes Commissioner of Prisons on corruption allegations

A complaint has been filed against the Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the complaint filed by an individual, the President's Office on April 18, 2019 instructed Maldives Correctional Services and other relevant authorities to lighten the sentence of a prisoner under the Clemency Act on the directive of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solik.

A letter was issued on April 24, 2019 signed by the Commissioner of Prisons stating that Mausoom Moosa of L. Gan had received a presidential pardon. According to the complaint, Mausoom Moosa was not pardoned by the president, and accused Commissioner Munaz of misusing his position of authority to gain an undue benefit.

ACC has confirmed that they are looking into such a complaint.
