The initial meeting of the working group formed under the “Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Health” (MoU) signed between Maldives and India, was held on Tuesday.
In the meeting discussions were held on training Maldivians in the field of health with assistance from India, getting technical assistance for the development of public health, and the work-plan of the cancer hospital to be established in the Maldives with the assistance from India.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Khadeeja Abdul Samad Abdullah participated in the working group on behalf of the Maldives. India’s Ministry of Health Secretary Preeti Sudan participated in the working group on behalf of India. Senior officials of the Ministry of Health from both the countries participated in the meeting in addition to senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Embassy in the Maldives.
In Tuesday’s meeting, the Ministry of Health thanked India for its assistance in the development of the health sector of the Maldives. Furthermore, discussions were held on ways to further improve the health sector.
The MoU was signed during the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Maldives in June 2019.
