A shop exclusively for Maldivian products is opened in duty-free of Velana International Airport.
In a ceremony held Thursday, the shop was opened by Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer. In the ceremony, the Acting Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Moosa Solih and employees of the company participated.
In the name of “Authentic Maldives”, the shop was opened with the initiation of Minister Fayyaz. The Ministry held an Expo last year, named “Fannu Expo” for Maldivian products. It is said that the eminent products from the Expo will be kept in the duty-free shop.
MACL has inaugurated an exhibition near airport Water Front Restaurant. The products displayed in the exhibition that is being held in the name of “Souvenir Safari” are also Maldivian.
The General Manager of MACL Hassan Areef said that local products would be kept in the shop within set criteria and guideline. Besides, they have initiated exhibitions for local products that will be held at the airport in sequence.
The first exhibition is being held in collaboration with Women Entrepreneurs Association, especially to sell products made by the Association’s members. Opportunities will be provided to other NGOs as well, said Hassan.
