MDP needs to achieve majority: Pres

One of the party's top leaders and President of the Republic of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that there will be challenges in realizing his Presidential Vows if the majority seats do not go to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the coming local council elections.

Speaking in Hdh. Kulhudhuhfushi City, President Solih said that the vows could only be realized by individuals that believe in them, and share the same mentality. Further stating that said individuals are MDP members, the President stated that there would be challenges in reaching the administration's objectives if the majority seats does not go the the party.

"My vow to develop a decentralized Maldives can only be attained by individuals that believe in the policy. To my knowledge, those individuals are respective to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). As such, this party needs to achieve majority in the local council elections", he said.

President Solih said that the Parliament exists to challenge government stance, and that they do their work in true diligence. He said that he could not comprehend why opposition parties needed to win the elections as well.

While MVR 42 million has been accumulated for the councils this year, the President said that this much was being invested in the councils so that they may do their work responsibly. He further stated that the work can responsibly be done by MDP.
