President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday appointed Ahmed Athif as the Deputy Minister of Tourism.
Before his new appointment, Athif served as a Councillor in Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council. He has also served as the President and Vice President of the atoll council in the past.
While Athif had earlier announced his decision to contest in main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s upcoming primary seeking a party ticket to run for Kulhudhuffushi City mayor in the local council election, Athif on Wednesday said he will no longer be contesting in the primary following his appointment.
Athif is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the British School of Commerce. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Avid College.
