Convict taken to IGMH flees

A convict transported to state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to undertake some medical tests has fled.

Speaking with AVAS, the Assistant Superintendent of Prisons and media official representing Maldives Correctional Service, Abdul Gadhir Ibrahim said that the convict fled sometime Thursday morning. Gadhir further revealed that the convict was serving time in relation to a drug case.

"He fled when we placed him in a room to undertake some medical tests", said the official.

Usually, convicts are handcuffed and accompanied by officers when brought to the hospital. Police are actively searching for the convict at present.
