Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is set to launch a program offering training for women in driving heavy vehicles and buses.
According to an announcement publicised by MPL, this is an apprentice program specialized for women.
They further revealed that driving, and operating the vehicles would be taught through the program. As such, by the end of the program, participants will be able to handle heavy vehicles such as forklifts, terminal tractors, and cranes as well.
The announcement stated that women between the ages of 18 - 35, who have completed grade 10 education will be able to participate. Furthermore, MPL would be giving special allowances to the selected candidates as well as a six month period to perfect their teachings. MVR 6,000 allowance is set to be paid per month per participant.
In addition, MPL said that those who complete the program and achieve certificates signifying their accomplishment will be awarded heavy vehicle operating licenses, and immediately secure permanent employment at the company.
The company also revealed that the program is to be launched under TIVET Authority's National Apprenticeship Program and that those who successfully complete the program will be awarded TIVET Authority National Level III certificates.
The announcement also stated that interested parties must submit their applications, and certificates before the 30th of January.
