Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has levied heavy criticism towards the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), stating that while powerful, the party remains incompetent in the solution of issues.
Jameel made this statement following Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's remarks in Parliament on how the Local Council Elections is not one that associates with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), or one they could comprehend.
Speaker Nasheed has requested the majority of the council seats to be awarded to MDP members, so that they may enforce the government's vows to the people. He said that PPM had worked to eradicate the decentralization policy during their reign, and that such people should not have majority on the council.
Criticizing MDP, Jameel stated that the party only achieved two things with the power of leadership and Parliament majority that they gained. That being; inaction towards those undermining the religion, and inaction towards pedophiles.
"They [MDP] are incompetent, even with their powers", said Jameel.
