MoU on protecting child rights signed between ARC, IUM

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been exchanged between Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) and Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) on the provision of religious and technical assistance towards ARC's efforts in protecting children's rights across the Maldives.

During a ceremony held Wednesday, the MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor Ibrahim Zakariyya Moosa on behalf of IUM. Executive Board Member Muruthala Moosa signed the document on behalf of ARC.

Speaking at the ceremony, Zakariyya noted that children are the future of the country, and said it is the duty of every individual to work towards the protection of children. While the sexual abuse of children is a concerning social issue faced by the country, it is important to prevent such acts from both a religious and fundamental perspective.

ARC is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit organization registered in the Maldives in December 2009. With a mission to protect and promote the rights and well-being of children of Maldives, ARC’s main areas of work include working closely with children’s shelters, advocacy and raising awareness on the rights of children through national and international outreach.
