Maldivians in Wuhan evacuated to India

Seven Maldivians who were in Wuhan city, Hubei province, the epicenter of the deadly coronavirus outbreak in China have been evacuated to India on Sunday.

Foreign Ministry said they were flown to India on a special Air India flight that was arranged by the Indian Government to evacuate their nationals from Wuhan. Prior to arriving in the Maldives, the Maldivians will be staying at a quarantine facility in New Delhi where they will be monitored as per international health guidelines. All Maldivians are doing well and in good health, said the foreign ministry.

The Maldives government expressed its deep appreciation for the assistance provided by the government of India in evacuating the Maldivians on their special flight. The government also acknowledged the cooperation and assistance extended by the government of China in facilitating the evacuation of the Maldivian nationals, and the efforts of the Maldivian Embassy in China and the Foreign Ministry team.

While it has been reported that nine Maldivians were in Wuhan, seven traveled to India along with 323 Indian citizens, as the remaining two Maldivians did not wish to leave Wuhan.
