MP Shareef threatened; security requested

Maradhoo MP Ibrahim 'Mavota' Shareef has informed the Parliament Secretariat of death threats being made against him.

In a tweet posted by Shareef, he revealed that he has been receiving death threats from an unknown person. While the Parliament Secretariat has now been informed, he is confident that the parliament will be doing the needful, said the MP.

Shareef has publicized the number from which he was contacted multiple times and threatened, and the name of the person to whom the number is registered to.

The issue has now been forwarded to the Defence Ministry by the Parliament. The security of MPs is handled by the ministry.

Five members of the current 19th parliament have requested for a security detail in the past. While the ministry provided the security as requested, neither the ministry nor the parliament have revealed which members made the requests.
