Vice-President of Progressive Party of Maldives says it is accomplishment to have held party’s primary without hassles

The Vice-President of opposing Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and son of former Maldives strongman, Ghassan Maumoon has stated that it in an accomplishment for the party to have concluded its primary "without becoming compelled by intense emotions".

Ghassan's statement is a clear reference to former president and current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed's statements following his party's primary last week, where party members had torched a ballot box after becoming agitated. Nasheed had downplayed the actions of his party members and said their actions were fueled by 'intense emotions'.

While PPM held their primary ahead of the local council election on Friday, the results were announced the same night. Ghassan on Saturday took to popular social media platform Twitter to thank the participants and said that it is an achievement to have concluded the election smoothly.

PPM primary was held in 51 islands across Maldives and over 1000 candidates contested in the election. The party is currently campaigning for the local council election slated for April 4.
