Opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has decided not to nullify the results for Fuvahmulah city mayorship of their primary held last week.
The relevant committee of the party made the decision after looking into complaints submitted by former MP Ali Fazaad who challenged the results of the election and refused to accept defeat after he lost his bid for the Fuvahmulah city mayorship ticket.
While Fazaad lost the election with a difference of 258 votes between himself and his contender Tariq, the letter sent to Fazaad informing him of the committee's decision said it is unlikely that there would be a significant change in results based on the numbers exhibited in the results. Therefore, it is unnecessary to nullify the results and hold a re-election, said the committee.
