President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will attain a bigger success than their achievement in the the 2019 parliamentary election, in the upcoming local council elections.
In response to a question posed by a journalist regarding MDP's campaigning activities, President Solih said that the people were still aligned with the party, just as they were ahead of the parliamentary election. Therefore, the party will likely be even more successful in the upcoming election, said the president.
The party's campaign activities were kicked off Friday at their headquarters near Artificial Beach in capital Male'. After putting up posters of their contestents at the headquarters, they then proceeded to stick the posters on walls of buildings in the capital's main steet, Majeedhee Magu.
MDP was victorious in the parliamentary election by a large margin, and attained super majority of the parliament. As previously stated by the President, the party should be given a larger amount of seats in the upcoming inorder to fulfill their electoral pledges, he reiterated.
The Speaker of the Parliament and President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed shared similar sentiments.
"The people are still aligned with MDP following our great victory in the last parliamentary elections. We will achieve even bigger success in the upcoming elections," said Nasheed.
