Pres inaugurates the Male’ City Streetscaping Project

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the Male’ City Streetscaping Project worth of MRV 462 million, on Monday. The project will be managed by Road Development Corporation (MRDC).

In the Phase I of the project the road Kanbaaaisaa Rani Hingun and surrounding areas be developed. Under this phase 8 roads will be developed in the state-of-the-art style, said Managing Director of MRDC Moosa Ali. The duration of the whole project is two years, he said.

Four types of roads to be developed under the Male’ Streetscaping Project.
1. Arterial Roads
2. City Roads
3. Secondary Roads
4. Neighbourhood Pedestrian Roads

In a previous occasion, Moosa has said that by the closure of the project all the utility cables, traffic lights and street cameras will be reinstalled. Moreover, other than the existing utility pipes and cables, the fire hydrants and gas pipes will also be buried under the ground.

Male’ City Mayor Shifa Mohamed said that the purpose of the project is to develop roads that are suitable and safe for all ages in Male’. Furthermore, to bring an end to continuous excavation for various purposes, and enable easy access to transportation, she added.

Mayor Shifa said that once the project is complete, there will be reasonable size pavements on both sides of the roads that are easily accessible for pedestrians and development of a reliable public transportation system thereby reducing motorbikes and taxis.

Furthermore, adequate parking spaces will be established, and regulation will be developed for loading and unloading the cargos.
