Part of Rasfannu Beach to be integrated into ring road

Work has been commenced to integrate the sand park of artificial beach “Rasfannu” as part of the ring road of the capital city Male’, and make it accessible for vehicles. Currently, the area is closed for vehicle access and only allows pedestrians.

During the administration of former president Yameen Abdul Qayyoom, “Rasfannu” was developed with a sand park as a recreational area for children by closing part of the road area. However, the City Council has stated that the area will be opened soon, making it part of the ring road.

According to Male’ City Council, the reason for closing the sand park of Ransfannu and opening it for vehicles is to ease traffic issues that might arise when Male’ Streetscaping Project commences in a month’s time.

Male’ Streetscaping Project will be carried out in two phases. In Phase I, as a pilot project, seven roads around Rasfannu area, each 1.94 meters long, will be reconstructed and is estimated to cost MVR 50.96 million. The total cost of the whole project is said to be MVR 462 million.
