Parliament committee decides to terminate four members of CSC

The independent institutions' committee of the parliament has decided to dismiss four members of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

In the committee’s sitting held on Sunday, it has been decided to dismiss the President Dr Ali Shameen, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed, Member Zakariyya Mohamed, and Member Ibrahim Shaheed of CSC. The decision was made with a unanimous vote of the four members who attended Sunday’s meeting.

On February 10, cabinet ministers were called for a meeting with the independent institutions' committee to understand the extent to which the ministries had been receiving cooperation from the CSC.

In the meeting, all the ministers had stated that CSC had not been very cooperative and they were unable to work to the pace the ministries require. Some ministers had alleged that CSC members were having a political influence of the previous government.

Based on the ministers’ responses, the independent institutions' committee began investigating the issue, and on Sunday’s meeting, it was decided to dismiss those four members.

There are five members in CSC, once the four members are terminated, only one member will be saved.
