No room for anti-Islamic organisations in Maldives: Nasheed

Former president of the Maldives and current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has stated that there is no room for any organization to work against Islam in Maldives.

In a tweet published on Tuesday, Nasheed said comments made by opposition PPM/PNC member Abdulla Khaleel that he was aiding anti-Islamic organizations to operate in the Maldives was a malicious attempt to incite spite among the Maldivian people. He added that no such organizations existed in the archipelago.

Nasheed's comments came while a UK-based think tank, QuilliumThink Tank recently held a workshop in HDh. Hanimaadhoo and preached anti-Islamic sentiments. Participants of the workshop said the facilitators of the workshop had attempted to paint actions prohibited in Islam as permissible acts. The Islamic Ministry is currently investigating the issue.

A statement released by main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on the issue did not condemn the alleged actions. The party denied that any such events had taken place at the workshop.
