The Tourism Ministry has revealed that arrangements are being made to transport Italian tourists in Maldives back to their country.
While over 100,000 people have been infected with the COVID-19 virus across the globe, over 4500 people have been infected in Italy. Italy records the second-most number of deaths due to the virus, with a death toll of almost 200.
Earlier on Friday, the government restricted the entry of passengers whose travel originated from or transited through Italy. It also includes passengers who have a 14-day travel history to Italy.
A press statement released by the Tourism Ministry on Saturday said arrangements are being made such that all Italian tourists currently in the archipelago will be allowed to leave the country without any restrictions or issues.
The ministry is working with the relevant authorities, entities and airlines to finalize the arrangements, said the ministry.
