A Maldivian at Kuramathi Island Resort who was in close contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in the same resort has been quarantined.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) said the person has been transferred to Farukolhufushi Quarantine Facility for testing.
An expatriate employee at the resort was isolated earlier today.
Six people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, including four from Kuredu Island Resort and two from Sandies Bathala Island Resort. The initial four cases appeared in Kuredu atoll after they contracted the virus from an Italian tourist who had recently holidayed at the island. The tourist had tested positive for COVID-19 upon his return to Italy.
Currently, five resorts, including the two resorts with positive cases have been placed on lockdown, and entry and exit from the islands have been restricted. One and Only Reethi Rah, Kuramathi Resort and Vilamandoo Resort have been placed on temporary lockdown due to suspected cases.
