Two arrested for violating travel restrictions

Police have arrested two people who disembarked to L. Kunahandhoo from a safari moored near the island.

The police said they arrested two local men aged 37-year-old and 39-year-old for violating restrictions imposed by the Director General of Public Health. The magistrate court of L.Gan has issued five days remand period for their arrest.

The police have urged everyone to abide by the orders of Director General of Public Health, which have been issued for the safety of everyone due to COVID-19.

The issue of flouting the orders of government have been surfacing lately with tourism sector employees in resorts and safaris leaving their islands or vessels against the instructions of the government. Police have been arresting rule-breakers.
