A fire incident occured on Wednesday night at Vilivaru Resort; an island currently being used as a quarantine facility to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the incident occured when a cargo container which stored construction materials and plastics caught on fire. There are no reports that anyone was harmed in the incident. The MNDF officers at the site have now quelled the fire, said MNDF.
Even at present, several people who returned to the Maldives from abroad are quarantined at the Vilivaru facility.
