Over 1000 individuals in quarantine facilities: HPA

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that 1002 people are currently at quarantine facilities.

HPA said a large number of people are currently housed at quarantine facilities with the government's decision to quarantine all inbound arrivals with the exception of tourists for a period of 14-days.

While the government has suspended issuing visas on arrival, the only arrivals in the Maldives since then are all Maldivians. Most are Maldivian nationals stranded abroad who are being repatriated. All of them are to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated facilities.

HPA said 1002 such individuals are currently at different quarantine facilities. Currently, several resorts are being used for quarantine purposes, and a daily expense of MVR 750 is incurred per head for all individuals in the quarantine facilities. The expenditure is being borne by the government.

HPA said 11 people are currently in isolation.

100 Maldivian nationals in Sri Lanka, 200 in India and 197 people in Malaysia were recently repatriated. They are currently completing their mandatory quarantine period.
