70 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals to be repatriated

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has revealed that 70 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals in the Maldives will be repatriated to their country via an evacuation flight arriving on Monday.

A military aircraft from Bangladesh will be arriving in the Maldives on Monday carrying 53 Maldivian nationals stranded in Bangladesh, 8 more in Nepal, and a medical team of 10 that will be assisting authorities in managing the situation in the Maldives. 70 Bangladeshi nationals will be traveling back on the same flight, the minister revealed on Twitter.

In his tweet, the minister thanked his Bangladeshi counterpart for his cooperation, and assured that the Maldives government would continue on repatriation of remaining undocumented immigrants.

52 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, out of which 32 were identified in capital Male'. The government on Sunday announced that 14 Bangladeshi nationals have tested positive for the virus.
