A pump station caught on fire in the Hithadhoo ward of the southernmost Addu City.
The fire incident was reported in the early evening of Tuesday. The fire has now been quelled, and no persons were harmed in the incident.
Mayor of Addu City, Abdulla Sodiq has published a tweet with the pictures from the incident. He said it is believed that the fire was an act of arson. He called on authorities to take strict actions against such people who vandalize properties and disrupt public services.
The commissioner of police had recently stated that some people have been vandalizing and setting fire on properties on purpose. In that regard, some speedboats docked at Adh. Mahibadhoo was set on fire that includes a sea ambulance and a national defence force launch.
The police are investigating the matter.
