Bangladesh donates medical provisions to the Maldives

Bangladesh government has donated medicines, medical equipment, and some essential items to the Maldives.

The donation was handed over to the government of Maldives in a ceremony held at Male’ Port. Speaking at the ceremony, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid expressed his appreciation and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, the Government and the Navy of Bangladesh for its timely and generous support during this challenging time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Shahid assured that there will be no discrimination between Maldivians and Bangladeshi nationals, or any other foreign national, in the country's efforts to provide maximum protection from the virus, and the appropriate healthcare when needed.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Defence, Mariya Ahmed Didi and Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal thanked the Bangladesh Armed Forces, Navy and the Government for their cooperation and generous assistance extended in addressing the challenges posed by COVID-19, on multiple fronts. In addition to the grant aid donated, their assistance in the repatriation of Maldivians from Nepal and Bangladesh, and the deployment of Bangladesh Armed Forces medical team were noted.

On Wednesday, Maldivian students studying in Bangladesh and Nepal were repatriated to the Maldives with the assistance of the Bangladeshi armed forces. A team of 10 healthcare professionals also arrived in the Maldives to work with the Maldivian medical team in providing medical care for those infected with COVID-19.
