543 people fined for violating lockdown restrictions

The police on Sunday revealed 543 have been fined for flouting lockdown rules.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC)'s press briefing, Assistant Police Commissioner, Ismail Naveen said 543 people have been fined for being out during the lockdown that was imposed in the capital Male’ region as a preventive measure against COVID-19 transmission.

Naveen said 167 people were fined from mainland Male’ on Saturday while 139 people were fined in Hulhumale’ whereas 23 people have been fined in VilliMale’. He further said a total of 543 people have been fined until now, including 458 from the mainland, 53 from reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', and 32 people from suburb Vilimale’.

Naveen said 49 people had been arrested for violating lockdown restriction out of which 47 people were detained from Male’.
