In his tweet, the president reiterated the government's commitment to strengthen the government policy on the protection of the children amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, and ensuring a happy future for all children.
"A very happy children’s day to all children. As we battle COVID 19, I want to reaffirm our goal to keep our children safe not only from this disease but also secure a happy future for them by ensuring they have access to good nutrition, education, and protection from violence," the president said in his message.
835 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Maldives thus far, including several children. A seven month old infant, two toddlers aged 2, a 5-year-old child, and a 7-year-old child have tested positive for the illness.
Moreover, several child-abuse cases surfaced late last year and at the beginning of this year. The government has been taking measures to expedite the investigation of such cases.
The current government had pledged to provide a healthy breakfast meal for government school children to contribute to the provision of healthy nutrition for school children. The programme was implemented last year.
