COVID-19: Inmates, guards at Himmafushi prison being tested

Maldives Correctional Services has revealed that jail officers and inmates at Asseyri Prison in K. Himmafushi are being tested for COVIID-19.

While three people from the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Himmafushi tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, an official from Correctional Services said the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) is collecting random samples from jail officers and inmates in Asseyri Jail. The total number of samples collected is unknown at this time as collection is still ongoing, said the official.

The NEOC recently took random samples from inmates and jail officers at Maafushi Prison. All samples came back negative.

Almost 1100 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives. The country has recorded four COVID-19 related fatilities and 49 recoveries thus far.
