The Maldives recorded 12 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of infections to 1106.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) on Monday said 15 new recoveries have been recorded, increasing the total number of recoveries to 74. The new recoveries include an 80-year old woman from Manadhoo island. The Health Minister has described her recovery as a huge success.
While the Indian Ocean archipelago has recorded four COVID-19 related fatalities, the number of active cases is currently 1026.
NEOC said ten people are currently hospitalised and receiving treatment. While more test results are expected early Tuesday, the number of positive cases are likely to increase, the centre warned.
The centre also revealed that 72 random samples collected from the Male' Prison and Asseyri Prison in Himmafushi island all came back negative for COVID-19.
