ADK Hospital in capital Male' has begun testing for COVID-19.

Until now, COVID-19 testing was carried out at state-run IGMH and the police forensic laboratory. Both facilities have a combined testing capacity of 745 samples per day.

The private hospital purchased a CPR machine that can test upto 500 samples a day. This will significantly increase the testing capacity of the Maldives, and fulfill the government's aim of conducting at least 1000 tests per day.

Speaking at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC)'s daily press briefing on Thursday, the centre's Spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said testing machines are being acquired for privately-run Tree Top Hospital, which the government is using as its main COVID-19 treatment facility. State-owned STO is also working to transport additional machines to the Maldives, said Mabrook.

"Two biofire machines are currently in transit in India. It will arrive in the Maldives within next week, and will be used at Tree Top and IGMH," said Mabrook.
