The Maldives recorded 12 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) during its regular press conference said 11 locals and one Bangladeshi national tested positive for COVID-19 by 1800 hrs. The centre said four locals are unrelated to any known clusters, while the remaining cases have links to known clusters.
NEOC said 850 samples were collected on Tuesday, and the results of 400 samples are pending.
While the total number of positive cases have surpassed 1800, 1224 cases are currently active. 1277 people are at isolation facilities while 1391 people are in quarantine, said NEOC.
The Indian Ocean archipelago recorded one COVID-19 related fatality on Tuesday, bringing the total toll to 7. According to the Health Protection Agency, an 89 year old local female passed away at an isolation facility early Tuesday morning.
During the press conference, HPA's epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal announced 120 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 608. The doctor said the recovery percentage has climbed to 33.03%.
